Description

Ratnapura is a district of Sri Lanka in the Sabaragamuwa Province. The gem-mining centre of Sri Lanka is also a major crossroad between southern plains and the hill country to the east. A bustling market city servicing most of the surrounding towns.

About

“Land of gems”, the Ratnapura District is in the Sabaragamuwa Province. The Sabragamuwa Province is South – East of capital city, Colombo. The name of the district, “Ratna - pura” interrelates the main source of income, gem trading. Other than gem related exposures, the district treat with many other tourist spots such as, a route to trek on Adam’s Peak, Sinharaja Rainforest, Maha Saman Devalaya, Udawalawe National Park, Gemmological Museum, waterfalls and tea plantation sectors. Majority of the population are Sinhalese & they follow Buddhism as their main religion.
